Being a witness to the beginning of someone’s fitness journey is an extremely humbling thing. It is a very vulnerable time for that person; ignoring their insecurities and exposing their weaknesses in hopes of becoming healthier and stronger is something us coaches do not underestimate. All of the coaches at Swink, and all of our members I’m sure, agree that one of the most exciting things in our gym is watching someone from day one grow stronger and better. We are so proud, and honored, to have been witnesses to the amazing journey that our September Member of the Month, Jenn Tarulli, has started on. Jenn started our Swink SWEAT class some months ago, and she has been FULL steam ahead ever since. There is no movement/workout she won’t do, and she is constantly pushing her limits to see how far she can go. She is also positive, appreciative, and encouraging 100% of the time. She is HUNGRY for getting better and pushes herself to the limit EVERY single day. Let me tell you, fellow Swinkers, we ALL could take notes from Jenn’s attitude. She sets an amazing example of what dedication, commitment, and investment in yourself can do for you…if we had a side-by-side picture of Jenn’s squat on her first day versus today, you would see what we mean! Talk about improvement!! We are so excited to see how strong you get, lady! Here’s a little more about our sassy, STRONG September MOM!
My husband, Jason and I relocated to Midlothian from Orange County, CA 3 years ago to be close to my parents and raise our two children, Camila (3) and Luca (2). I traded my career in higher education for the opportunity to be a stay-at-home mom and I love it! My husband is my best friend and biggest supporter. After having kids the closest thing I had to an exercise routine was lifting a child onto a changing table or chasing them around the house. We decided it was important for us to set a good example for our kids by leading a healthy and fit lifestyle. That’s when I found Swink! I was invited by my friend Britney Moore to check out a Sweat class. I remember how anxious, excited and terrified I was driving there, but when I walked in the door I knew I found my fitness calling.
That’s a smile-grunt…the “I love/hate this” face
What’s your favorite thing about Swink?
The camaraderie and positivity are contagious. It’s what kept me from turning around and running away my first night. I had no idea what I was doing or what to expect, but I felt welcomed, never intimidated and certainly encouraged. Those feelings have been a constant. I always look forward to seeing everyone! “Swink Family” and “We are Swink” aren’t just slogans, but also the culture and essence of the gym. ALSO, the Food Nutrition Challenge was a game changer for my family. I definitely picked up some new healthy habits!
What’s your favorite movement/workout?
Running, back squats, box jumps and any Tabata work-out, but I generally feel great after any getting through anything I’ve never done before like the first time we did Turkish Get-ups or a medicine ball run.
What’s your least favorite?
Wall balls and burpees. I haven’t found my rhythm with these guys, but I keep reminding myself that they’re hard because they work.
What’s your favorite clean meal/snack?
I love grilled chicken on a big bed of romaine, fresh veggies (especially avocado) and some nuts-easy and delicious! If I’m craving something sweet, sliced bananas and organic peanut butter hit the spot.
What’s your favorite cheat meal?
Chicken strips with honey mustard.
What advice would you give to someone new to Swink?
Yes, you’re sore. Yes, it’s tough, but you can’t deny the fact that you’re having fun, getting stronger PLUS the people and coaches are awesome! Keep coming back!!
