Member of the Month – June

Those Deadlifts that she loves so much!

First thing is first…if you don’t have time to read ALL of this….EVERYONE needs to read Dani’s response to the last question we asked her.  It speaks to SO many of you!!

A lot of people make excuses in the gym to try to get out of, or stay out of, “trouble.”  (It’s true…us coaches WILL put you in time-out!)  It’s actually easier for us to work with you and your lifestyle to make you better if you are honest and upfront about your comforts, challenges and difficulties.  Our June member of the month, Dani Lewis, has made huge strides in her success at the gym because of these very reasons.  She is an amazing example of how to keep your priorities in line by being honest about what she can and can’t do.  As you’ll see below, she has a full plate, but she manages to come in every chance she gets and NEVER makes excuses.  She works hard at everything she does in the gym, and if for some reason she can’t, she is up front about it so us coaches can work with her to keep her on track.  She is an irreplaceable piece of the Sweat team, and Swink in general. First off, I am a Mom. I take great pride in being a stay at home mom. Brody Daniel Lewis is by far my favorite thing on the planet and I will tell anyone who will listen. Second, I am a Wife. I love being a wife to Bobby. We have been together 13 years, married for 5 of those and each and everyday I love him more. Third, I am a blogger. I love blogging and I blog everyday about life, family, food, God, and whatever else I can come up with. It is my own personal journal for people to read (http://www.danilynnlewis.blog spot.com) (and yes, I did just plug myself). Fourth, I have a weird obsession with Fabletics. If you have ever met me or seen me in the the gym, you will almost always see me in Fabletics. I am a walking spokes-model for them (except I don’t get paid). and Fifth, I love wine. White wine to be more specific. To the point I even went to France to learn about it. I love life. I love God. I love my family. And I love my Swink Sweat girls! 

What is your favorite thing about Swink?

Man oh man. Probably for me, it would be the relationships I have gained. My Swink Sweat girls are the BEST! They love to talk, they love to laugh, but they love to hold each other up. There is nothing these girls wouldn’t do for one another and I am truly blessed by them. 

What’s your favorite movement/workout

Running and I weirdly love handstands/wall walks. 

What’s your least favorite?

Any movement that is a true CrossFit movement (like deadlifts, presses, cleans, etc.). The reason I love Swink Sweat so much is because it is more cardio based and less lifting. I am a cardio girl to the max so when it comes to a true CrossFit movement, I tend to make an annoying sound towards the direction of Betsy or Meg. 

What’s your favorite clean meal/snack

Honestly….I hate eating “clean”. I try to find a balance in my diet because I do believe we are what we eat. I always try to eat my healthiest meals for breakfast and dinner. I love my husbands crock pot shredded chicken and his Asian edamame he makes. I could eat those edamame’s for every meal! And breakfast goes to Oatmeal with Peanut Butter. 

What’s your favorite cheat meal? 

Sprinkles Cupcakes or Flaming Hot Cheetos or Pepperoni Pizza or Margaritas/Mexican food


What advice would you give to someone new to Swink?

Coming from someone who experienced a form of postpartum after having Brody, I can tell you from experience that you must find something for you. You must find a way to put yourself first at times. Stepping through Swink my first day was one of the most terrifying things I have ever done. But it didn’t take 2 seconds before I felt like family. Stick with it. Never give up. Ask questions. Get help. Everyone started from somewhere. Even if it takes you 10 minutes longer than the rest of the group, keep at it. You will only get better. You will only improve. If you don’t believe me, you should have seen my squats a year ago. EMBARRASSING! But now those suckers are pretty darn near somewhat perfect.
