The feeling of defeat is powerful. It can quickly trump all other emotions you’re feeling and dominate your behavior. It is also scary. That feeling of defeat can scare you so much, you will make every effort to avoid whatever it is that caused you to feel that way.
Those who overcome defeat, can overcome anything. It signifies somebody who is strong in both body and mind, which is not something many of us can claim.
Our June MOM, Julie Barron, is not only one of our longest standing members, she is one of, if not THE most inspiring. She is a badass in so many ways (you can read about her below), but perhaps her most admirable quality is her ability to look fear straight in the eye and not let it take her down. She shows up even if the workout is one she HATES…one she KNOWS will be physically and mentally challenging. If you ever need inspiration, just watch Julie do a workout with thrusters. She HATES them with a passion. But she DOES IT ANYWAY.
We are continuously proud of you, Jules, Cuz, Master Handstand Spotter! KEEP DEFEATING DEFEAT!!!
I am an elementary school librarian and was a classroom teacher for 19 years. I am married and have 2 grown step children, a new grand baby, and a fluffy poodle for a best buddy. I started at Swink on Oct 11th, 2012 on a whim and am so thankful that I did! I am about to turn 50 but, since joining Swink I continually surprise myself by doing things I could never have done at 20!
What is your favorite thing about Swink?
The challenge, the progress, the potential, & the support! Over the years I’ve tried every exercise program out there. None of which gave me the motivation, drive, and determination that I have found for exercise at Swink. It’s all because of the support I have received as an individual athlete from all of the coaches & members. Even after the big strength gains and noticeable results turn into tiny steps towards progress, there is always someone that gives you that encouragement you need to keep going!
What’s your favorite movement/workout?
Lifting – I like working on and improving skill and getting stronger!
What’s your least favorite?
What’s your favorite clean meal/snack?
Grilled chicken or steak
What’s your favorite cheat meal
What advice would you give to someone new to Swink?
Stick with it and be consistent. By starting you have already taken a step that many are too scared to take. You want to take control of your health and fitness, or you wouldn’t have taken the leap of faith to start. Don’t be intimidated by other people’s performance. Be inspired, knowing that each time you step foot in the gym it’s a step forward in the right direction. Be proud for starting and believe in yourself and your potential.
