Talk about GOOD attitude! Everyone has a bad day every now and then, right? You wouldn’t know it by looking at our August member of the month. He sheds a positive light on everything, never letting what’s going on behind the scenes affect his attitude at the gym. It’s no wonder this guy makes a living off inspiring others!
Jackson Sanderfer is a force to be reckoned with. He hasn’t been at Swink an especially long time, but since the day he walked through the door, he has made our gym a little bit brighter. Jackson puts his head down and gets to WORK, grinding it out and giving it 100% effort regardless of how his day went or how he is feeling. As you’ll read below, he too feels intimidated or scared by some aspects of the gym. But just as he approaches life, he faces those fears HEAD ON, and is always better for doing so.
Too often we let our minds and our excuses get the better of us. We rationalize that giving 90% is OK, crapping out after the first round isn’t so bad, or having a negative view about how we will do in a workout is fine because “what does it matter?” Next time these thoughts creep in your head, take a page from Jackson’s book, and face that fear, whatever it may be. We promise (and he is living proof) that you WILL BE STRONGER because of it!!
Congrats buddy. LESSSSGOOOOOO!!!
What is your favorite thing about Swink?
GOSH…. I MEAN EVERYTHING. The bathrooms are nice!
No, but seriously, it would have to be the coaches. I have been to a few other crossfit gyms in different areas. And I have never been into one where the coaches spend more time and energy on taking care of their athletes. From stretching to warming up, to coaching the movement. We have an awesome set of coaches that I am thankful for.
What’s your favorite movement/workout?
I don’t know if I have a favorite “workout” they are all terrible and i hate them all.
But as far as movements. I think my FAVORITE movements would have to be RUNNING, POWER CLEANS, AND DEADLIFTS.
What’s your least favorite?
hahaha UMMM does ROMWOD count. I like talking during romwod but the stretching part is not necessarily my favorite, even though I ned it.
Ill go with ROMWOD, ring muscle ups (Because I am not great at them), and burpees…
What’s your favorite clean meal/snack?
My favorite clean meal would have to be freshly cooked, all natural broccoli and beef made with sirloin steak and served with some quinoa and a protein shake.
What’s your favorite cheat meal?
I would have to say SOME TORCHYS TACOS AND THEIR QUESO!!
OHHH…. and any type of candy… I am a sucker for candy…
What advice would you give to someone new to Swink?
I have 2.
ALWAYS FIND A WAY.
There are a billion reasons why you shouldn’t go that day. BUT TRY TO FIND A WAY TO GET THERE.
THERE ARE MANY DAYS WHEN I DON’T FEEL LIKE going, but after I choose to go anyway, I am glad I did.
Never BE AFRAID TO FAIL
Hopefully somebody reads this: Every SINGLE DAY as I am driving to the gym in my car, I have butterflies in my stomach (no joke). And it is because I am nervous or afraid of something. Am I going to beat the time cap, what if I don’t. Am I going to be able to get up that final weight in the workout. What If I don’t do as well as I would hope. Whatever, all of that stuff.
Sometimes I fail. Sometimes i succeed. But no matter what EVERY TIME I am glad I WENT FOR IT. Everyday I still get nervous about failing… BUT I HAVE EMBRACED IT.
Everyday I go in and say to my self, “IT’S TIME TO FAIL!!” Because without failure there cannot be success, and without failure there cannot be improvement.
SO IF YOU ARE NEW OR STARTING OR THINKING ABOUT STARTING, don’t be afraid to FAIL!
ohhh…. and one more thing, IT WOULDN’T BE COMPLETE, without a good ole fashion, “LESSSSSS GOOOOOOOO!!!!”
